I have just finished a new website for a photographer friend of mine that lives in my neighborhood in Mesa. Her name is Stephanie Ortega, and from what I’ve seen, a very talented photographer. Check out her brand new website:
Stephanie Ortega Photography
I built the website over the course of two months in my “spare” time. It was a fun project, and Stephanie, with her Photoshop and InDesign skills, made a lot of the designing easy. It’s nice to work with clients who know what a pixel is. The bulk of the project was actually in the administrative parts of the website where she can login and completely edit all of the photos, galleries, and textual content. The front end provided some challenges as well with displaying the galleries and photos in a way that worked smoothly and presented her work. Overall, I think it turned out very well, and it looks really nice.

It turns out that the trim() functions of PHP are even more useful than I originally thought. The trim functions ( trim(), ltrim() and rtrim() ) are normally used to trim whitespace from the ends of strings. However, the definition of trim from the PHP Manual states: “Strip whitespace (or other characters) from the beginning and end of a string”
. I added emphasis (literally) to the part that says “(or other characters)”. That means we can trim anything from a string. I hope you can see the value of this. Well, I’ll show you a brief example anyway after the fold.

Trumpets burst forth from the heavens to announce the grand opening of Jeremy and Penny’s blog!
Welcome, welcome friends, family, peers, contemporaries, associates, etc. I’m announcing the beginning of our blog. I have felt the need to create one for some time, but now it is here. What should you expect to see on this blog? Well, I’ll spell it out for you:
- Posts about Penny and I and our family. Eventually we’ll have some pictures of our kids, but first we need to get some kids… and then some photos of them.
- Web development articles. Yep, it’s my passion. Expect tutorials and informative articles about various subjects and how-tos for PHP, HTML/XHTML, CSS, MySQL, and JavaScript. I will also be linking to and/or reposting good articles I found around the web or that I write on other web development blogs like HTMList.
- Restaurant reviews. I don’t consider myself a food connoisseur, but I do think of myself as more of a food carnisaur, which is kind of like a connoisseur, a carnivore and a dinosaur all in one. That just means I am an expert at eating food, and I can tell you what places are good or bad.
- A bunch of other stuff. Rants, raves, thoughts, ideas, religious blurbs, movie reviews, events, news and stuff about my band, school and work, etc.
